MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY FOR ADVANCED ESL

 
Are you an Advanced ESL student who would like to start a career in Healthcare? This course is meant for students who speak and write English as a Second Language (ESL) at the Intermediate High or Advanced ESL level. Would you like to learn medical terminology, earn college credit and attend MVLA Healthcare programs for FREE?

ESL Placement Test Registration

 
All new ESL students must take a placement test in person. Mountain View and Los Altos residents have priority. Residents of other cities will be accommodated if there is space. Students must pre-register for the test in person at MVLA Adult School (333 Moffett Blvd, Mountain View, CA 94043). It is not possible to register over the phone. Space is limited. No walk-ins are allowed for testing. Please do not bring any children on the day of testing. Students must be available to stay for the whole testing period.
 
Summer ESL Classes begin June 11 and end July 18. Regular attendance is required. No class on June 19 or July 4.

PLEASE NOTE: 
We are only enrolling Intermediate and higher level students in evening online classes for the summer. We are not testing lower-level (beginner) ESL students for evening classes at the May 30 test. 

If you do not know if your level of English is high enough for the test, see if you can understand this reading and answer the questions. 

If you are interested in beginning ESL classes in the evening, classes in the afternoon, or classes at the Mountain View Senior Center, please wait for our fall session. Placement testing will be in August and specific test dates will be announced at a later time.

Students should not sign up for testing if they:
  • completed the highest levels of ESL at another adult school or college
  • have taken six or more years of English classes as part of their elementary or secondary education
  • are visiting California for a short-term stay
 
These students should visit MVLA's partner colleges for more advanced ESL options. 
 

CITIZENSHIP PREPARATION

 
SUMMER SCHEDULE : Ongoing through July 1, 2024 . No classes scheduled in July and August. Check the website in later summer for more information about fall Citizenship classes.

There is no test for joining Citizenship class, but students should be permanent residents eligible for U.S. citizenship and plan to send an application in the next year. Please note: The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in San Jose is currently processing N-400 applications very quickly. We strongly advise signing up for class before you send your application for Citizenship.
