NEW FALL 2023 MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY FOR ADVANCED ESL CLASS

MVLA Adult School will be offering a new course this fall to help prepare higher-level ESL students for entry level careers in healthcare. This course is meant for students who speak and write English as a second language and need help on their reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar skills to be ready for college and career. Students at the Intermediate High or Advanced ESL levels may be eligible to enroll in this course. This is a foundational course that helps prepare students for healthcare training programs such as Certified Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, Eye Care Technician, Medical Office Assistant and more.

Certificate Programs
  • Google Applied Digital Skills - Entry Level Project Management
This hands-on course, offered in collaboration with Google, equips students with the digital skill set required for entry-level employment in project management. The course focuses on solving real-life problems using Google Apps as a tool. Students will learn to create spreadsheets, effectively organize, analyze, manipulate, and visualize data, and identify patterns in data. Additionally, the course covers programming basics, debugging, and implementing algorithms. Students will also develop research-based decision-making skills and digital collaboration techniques to communicate successfully with others.
The course fee is $70.00. Students have the option to purchase a Chromebook or a laptop for approximately $650.00.
 
  • Network Specialist - CompTIA Network+
This course covers the installation, configuration, and maintenance of wired and wireless networks, including network management, optimization, troubleshooting, and security.  A free optional resume workshop is available, and job placement assistance is provided. The CompTIA A+ exam costs $137.00, and the book is $60.00

  • Web development
Students  who complete the following  three courses are eligible for the Web Development Certificate.
           - Web Design Fundamentals with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
           - Introduction to the Python Programming Lanugage
           - AWS Cloud Computing
 
This program prepares individuals to apply HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, graphics applications, and other authoring tools to the design, editing, publishing, and launching of documents, images, graphics, sound, and multimedia products on the World Wide Web. The program includes instruction in Internet theory, web page standards and policies, elements of web page design, user interfaces, vector tools, special effects, interactive and multimedia components, search engines, navigation, morphing, e-commerce tools, and emerging web technologies. The cost of the AWS Certified Developer - Associate exam is about $150. The fee for Web Design is $70.00, Intro to Python is $70.00, and Amazon Web Services is $70.00, totaling $210.00 for the pathway.

Registration and Enrollment:
Registration and enrollment for Career Technical Education classes are ongoing, year-round.  Please visit our online registration site to register.
 
Cancellation Policy:
For all Career Technical Education classes, a 10% cancellation fee will be assessed for refunds requested at least one week before the first class meeting, and no refunds will be given within one week of the first class meeting. Please refer to the refund policy in our catalog.

 

 

Required Healthcare Orientations for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) / Medical Assistant (MA) / Eye Care Technician (ECT)

CNA Scholarships Available:
The CTE program at MVLA adult school has established strong partnerships with skilled nursing facilities that offer scholarships in the form of reimbursed tuition. If employed as a full-time CNA professional by these facilities within six months of employment, you will be reimbursed your full tuition via quarterly bonuses as long as you remain employed with the facility.
